The UN Human Rights Council condemns the emergency legislation

The United Nations Human Rights Council condemns the suppression of peaceful protesters and the denial of the right of citizens to express their problems.

Human rights experts say that the Sri Lankan government imposed emergency legislation for the first time on April 2.

Also, after the resignation of the former President on July 15, it was announced again on July 17 and it was further extended with the approval of the Parliament on July 27.

He added that although the United Nations Human Rights Council has continuously stressed on the government, no action has been taken in this regard.
